The Indian government has introduced new amendments to passport regulations, simplifying the identification process. Under these revised rules, only one specific document will be required as proof of date of birth for applicants born on or after October 1, 2023.
A passport is an essential document that verifies a person’s identity and nationality, enabling international travel for tourism, education, business, and other purposes. The Government of India has made key amendments to passport rules, which will affect new applicants.
As per the updated guidelines, individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, must provide a birth certificate issued by an authorized entity as the sole proof of their date of birth. This certificate must be issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths, the Municipal Corporation, or any other competent authority under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969.
For individuals born before this date, alternative documents such as a driving license or school leaving certificate may be accepted as proof of date of birth.
These revised passport regulations will come into effect once they are officially published in the government gazette.
An Indian passport serves as a crucial document for proving citizenship while traveling abroad. The Indian government issues three types of passports:
A regular passport is valid for up to 10 years before renewal is required.
These changes aim to simplify the passport application process while ensuring proper identity verification for Indian citizens traveling internationally.
