A case of branding a one month old child with a hot iron rod has come to light in Nabarganjpur, Odisha. After the child got fever, the family members branded him 40 times with a hot iron rod due to superstition, due to which his condition became critical.

A shocking incident has come to light from Odisha's Nabarangpur district. Where a one-month-old child was branded with a hot iron rod about 40 times in the name of treatment. After this, when the child's condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the hospital. Due to blind faith, the family members branded the child with an iron rod 40 times. Officials gave information about the incident on Monday.

According to the information, the child is from Fundelpada village of Gambhariguda Panchayat of Chandahandi block of Nabarangpur district. Actually, the child had fever 10 days ago and he was crying continuously. The family members believed that the child was possessed by some evil spirit. To save the child from this, the family members branded him with a hot iron rod.

Child's head and stomach injury

NCabarangpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Santosh Kumar Panda reached the hospital. He talked to the family and enquired about the condition of the child. Panda said that the child's health is improving. He said that there are about 30 to 40 marks on the child's stomach and head. The incident was carried out due to superstition. The family members believed that if the child is branded with a hot iron rod, his diseases will be cured.

Ongoing treatment in hospital

He said that when the child's condition became critical after being branded with a hot iron rod, he was admitted to Umarkot Hospital. The CDMO said that such practices have been prevalent in remote areas for a long time. The health department has decided to focus on Chandahandi block and create awareness among people so that children are brought to the hospital for treatment instead of branding them with hot iron rods.
