Over 600 customers have reported problems with the services on the Downdetector website, which monitors the status of online services. Around two-thirds of customers have reported issues with , and a further 17% say they are unable to use their . Around 21% saw issues logging into accounts.
Santander customers have taken to social media to share their frustration with the high street bank. one customer posted on X - formerly : "Santander please sort your mobile banking out at a and I can't even transfer money." A second added: "Not sSntander going down i need to transfer my money around."
Another added: "I can't even transfer money from one Santander account to another. I hope you're not going to charge me for being £3 overdrawn." A fourth said: "I can't do back transfers between accounts or to my payees. What's going on?"

Issues appear to have started around midday, and at its height, 623 people reported a problem. The numbers have dropped, although over 400 people were still facing issues around 2pm this afternoon. The issues have also seen further financial repercussions for customers. In the comment on Downdetector, one person said their payment had yet to come into their bank account, while another went "off supply" with their energy and was going to use their benefit payment to top up their energy.
On the outage, a Santander spokesperson told the : "We are ware that customers are currently unable to access some of our services. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and are urgently working to fix the problem. We would like to reassure our customers that no customer will be left out of pocket."
The outage comes after the Treasury Committee released a report on the scale of recent banking IT failures. The Treasury Committee said that, over the past two years, nine of the UK's largest banks and building societies have experienced more than 33 days of unplanned and system outages. Barclays Bank took the top spot with the most outages totalling 93 hours, while Natwest had the longest downtime of 194 hours across 13 different outages.
Since January 2023, Santander has faced 24 outages, with total outages sitting around 116 hours. Even with this, Santander has only received a "low volume" of complaints and has only paid out £17,000 in compensation compared to Barclays who has paid out over £5million.
