Antony addresses his future amidst speculation that Manchester United could reconfigure their forward line in the summer transfer window.

On loan Manchester United winger Antony has said that he does not know where his future lies and has insisted that it is too soon to talk about a permanent transfer.

The Brazilian was loaned out in the January transfer window to La Liga club Real Betis after another disappointing campaign in England having failed to score in the Premier League for the Red Devils.

However, Antony has scored two goals and provided two assists in La Liga for the Spanish side, and he was even nominated for the league’s player of the month award for his performances in February.

Antony has said that he does not know where he will be next season, with Sports Witness quoting the winger as saying: “I don’t know (what will happen), it’s too early to talk about that, as you say, I’m always enjoying every day here, I’m very happy, very content, and well, that’s always the way it is.”

Manchester United have only scored 33 goals in the Premier League this season, and they will be keen to keep an eye on Antony’s progress before making a decision regarding the 25-year-old’s future.

Can Antony save his United career?

During his time in the Premier League since arriving in 2022-23, Antony has scored just five goals and produced three assists in 62 appearances.

The winger has never been prolific in the final third in his career, and has in fact found the back of the net on just 29 occasions across his time in the Brazilian, Dutch, English and Spanish top flights.

It should also be noted that Antony has scored two goals in La Liga from an xG total of 0.7 and few players have proven they can consistently overperform their xG total.

While Antony is undoubtedly playing well in Spain, it is difficult to suggest that he will be able to keep up his form and it is hard to justify him being part of the United squad next season.

A summer revamp?

Marcus Rashford was also loaned out to Aston Villa in the January transfer window after a turbulent time under boss Ruben amorimand it would be surprising if he was able to rectify his relationship with the Red Devils boss.

Winger Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford due to the club’s dire financial situation, and he may have to make way in the summer if Amorim is to rebuild his side’s failing attack.

The Portuguese boss suggested in the past that Antony has performed better in Spain due to the league being less physical in nature, so perhaps United will target combative forwards in the upcoming transfer window.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked to the Red Devils in recent days, and it would not be surprising if Amorim looked to sign athletically gifted wide players to support him in attack.
