sparked an online backlash after posting a vile tweet about the 2025 Sidemen Charity Match. The and raised millions of pounds for charities.

The Sidemen Charity Match proved to be an entertaining affair as the YouTube Allstars defeated Sidemen FC on penalties following a 9-9 draw. The match was watched by 90,000 people at the stadium after tickets sold out within three hours. A further eight million people also tuned in to watch a livestream.

The match, which was played eight days before the Carabao Cup final between Liverpool and Newcastle at Wembley, raised £4,733,004 for charities including BBC Children in Need, Bright Side and M7 Education.

But Barton reacted to a video of the winning penalty by writing on : "How is Wembley rented out a week before a League Cup Final for the R***** Bowl?

"F***ing embarrassing. Those clowns shouldn't be anywhere near the hallowed turf. Especially, the big fat f***** in a bandana. Game has gone. R******'s everywhere you look. Some of the very worse football I've ever seen. El S*******."

The former England international also used an emoji of a gun after adding an emoji of a clown.

A host of Barton's followers were unhappy at the 42-year-old's remarks, with @_randyAFC posting: "Joey Barton needs to be checked. Not sure he's okay even by his own standards."

Another X user @spuddgaming replied: "Coming from a guy who's career amounted to nothing and the only thing you're remembered for is an embarrassing tantrum whilst playing for QPR."

Meanwhile, @DominicMurphy97 explained: "Hating on a charity game, why does that not surprise anyone. Also funny considering you probably wouldn't say that to Logan Paul or KSI's face." And @CFCIllustrated said: "Is this your retirement? Rage baiting on X? About a bunch of people that just raised a ton of money for charity?"

The Sidemen Charity Match was first played back in 2016, with five more editions of the event being staged in the years since.

The matches have become high-scoring affairs in recent years, with Saturday's game seeing more goals than ever before. YouTube Allstars won the event for the first time in 2017, with Saturday's result seeing them win the contest for only the second time.

The next edition of the Sidemen Charity Match is expected to take place next year and could be hosted at Wembley once again.
