IIFA Awards 2025: ‘Laapataa Ladies’ dominates the night, ‘Kill’ also shines

The high-profile International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2025 in its 25th anniversary saw a grand ceremony held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Sunday. The evening saw Bollywood’s top talents take home awards, with director Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies being the standout winner of the night.

'Laapataa ladies' Sweeps Major Awards

Kiran Rao’s second directorial effort, Laapataa Ladies, a sweet story of two brides mistakenly exchanged while traveling on a train, won a total of 10 awards. The movie won the prestigious Best Picture, and Rao herself received Best Director.

Seventeen-year-old Nitanshi Goel won the Best Actress award for her remarkable portrayal of Phool Kumari, while veteran actor Ravi Kishan bagged the Best Supporting Actor (Male) award. Pratibha Ranta, who made a powerful debut, won the Best Debut (Female) award.

The movie’s excellent storytelling was also rewarded with the Best Original Story award. Its musical excellence was also celebrated, with Ram Sampath being awarded Best Music Director and Prashant Pandey receiving the Best Lyrics award for the Sajni song. The movie also won Best Screenplay and Best Editing, proving its domination at the event.

‘Kill’ Impresses with Four Awards

Karan Johar’s production, Kill, a gory revenge thriller, was also in strong contention at the IIFA 2025. Raghav Juyal, who is known for his all-around talent, won Best Performance in a Negative Role, and Lakshya Lalwani, the lead actor of Kill, took home the Best Debut (Male) award. Kill also won awards for Best Sound Design and Best Cinematography, which highlighted its technical prowess.

Other Notable Wins

Bollywood heartthrob Kartik Aaryan won Best Actor (Male) for his act in blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, collecting another feather for his cap.

Gujarati cinema queen Janki Bodiwala took home the Best Supporting Actor (Female) award for her gripping performance in Shaitaan, a psychological thriller with R. Madhavan and Ajay Devgn.

The 2025 IIFA Awards were a night to remember, basking in the glory of cinematic excellence and the changing landscape of Indian cinema.
