IPL 2025: Indian Premier League 2025 is starting from 22 March. The first match of the tournament is being played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore (KKR vs RCB). Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has written a letter to IPL chairman Arun Dhumal to stop tobacco and liquor advertisements including surrogate advertisement and sales during the IPL.
It has been written in the letter of the Directorate General of Health Services that at present, serious diseases like diabetes, lung diseases, cancer are increasing rapidly in India. Consumption of tobacco and alcohol is the main reason for increasing these diseases. India ranks second among the most deaths due to tobacco.
Due to alcohol, 14 lakh lives in India every year. Earlier, the Ministry of Health had also recommended a ban on the promotion of alcohol and tobacco during the sports tournament.
The letter written by DGHS states that all tobacco and alcohol advertisements should be banned on broadcast platforms, inside and outside the stadium during IPL matches. Apart from this, the sale of tobacco and liquor at the stadium and IPL sites was also banned. Whereas being the ideal of the youth, people associated with the sports world should not promote liquor and tobacco company in any way.
