Across the world, an estimated 850 million people—which is over 10 per cent of the world's population—are affected by some form of kidney disease, with a higher prevalence among older adults, women, racial minorities, and individuals with diabetes or hypertension. However, most do not know they have it.
According to experts, there are many physical signs of kidney disease, but sometimes most people attribute them to other conditions. It happens mostly because kidney disease does not show most symptoms until the very late stages, when the organs begin to fail or when there are large amounts of protein in the urine.
Kidneys do many important jobs like removing waste and extra fluid from your body, making red blood cells, keeping your bones strong, and working to maintain the right amount of minerals in your blood. Doctors say that while the only way to know if you have kidney disease is to get tested, there are a few shocking signs you can watch out for.

Dryness and itchy skin

If you have been experiencing excessive dryness on your skin and are feeling too itchy, it can be a sign of the mineral and bone disease that often accompanies advanced kidney disease, or it can be a sign that the kidneys are no longer able to maintain the correct balance of minerals and nutrients in your blood.

Blood in urine

When your kidneys are healthy, they keep the blood cells in the body while filtering waste from the blood to create urine. However, when their filters get damaged, the blood cells begin to leak out into the urine, indicating an infection in the kidney or a tumour.

Swelling around ankles or feet

When your kidney function begins to slow down, it leads to sodium retention, which causes swelling and inflammation in your feet and ankles. According to doctors, it happens due to excess water retention and is a sign of advanced kidney troubles.

Extreme tiredness and fatigue

As your kidneys begin to fail in their activity, it can cause a buildup of toxins and impurities in the blood. This can make you feel extremely tired or weak, making it hard to concentrate. Also, toxins stay in the blood rather than leaving the body through the urine, making it difficult for you to sleep.
Experts say for those battling kidney issues, sleep apnea becomes a general feature.

Puffiness around the eyes

When the filters of your kidneys begin to get damaged, it accumulates more protein in the urine, allowing the nutrients to leak into the urine. It then creates puffiness around your eyes, which is dbecauseyour kidneys are leaking a large amount of protein in the urine rather than keeping it in the body.

Muscle cramps

Another important sign of kidney function being lost is electrolyte imbalances, which cause severe muscle cram mostly in elderly people.
