Billionaire Narayana Murthy-led Infosys Indias largest IT services firm has issued a new work-from-office (WFO) mandate for its employees warning that failure to comply with the mandated requirements would trigger a system intervention a term which sparked panic among its workforce. Infosys WFO mandate Earlier this week Infosys rolled out its new work-from- office which requires employees to work from office at least 10 days in a month and any additional work-from-home (WFH) days would require managerial approval. The Narayana Murthy-led IT major warned employees that failure to attend office for a mandatory 10 days in a single month would trigger a system intervention. The ambiguous system intervention warning sparked concerns among Infosys employees who feared their leave would be deducted if they failed to comply with the companys new WFO mandate. Infosys addresses system intervention warning However the Narayana Murthy-led company has reportedly addressed these concerns issuing a clarification regarding the new WFO policy on its employee app. As per a report by the Economic Times the app which is used by Infosys employees to record their attendance will no longer approve WFH requests by default and employees are required to punch in at their office base for at least 10 days a month. The app will show any extra WFH days as an exception and will be regularized only after managers approve the request. Managers now enjoy the discretion to approve or deny a regularisation request. A lot will also depend on the relationship between an employee and their manager the report quoted a senior executive at Infosys as saying. Employees asked to limit WFH requests Notably Infosys functional heads had sent an email to employees last week asking them to limit the number of WFH days they apply for from March 10 2024. To support this starting March 10 2025 system interventions will be implemented to limit the number of work-from-home days that can be applied each month. These measures are designed to ensure compliance with the new hybrid work requirements while maintaining flexibility for employees the email read. According to the report the communication applies to employees at job level 5 (JL5) and below including team leaders software engineers senior engineers system engineers and consultants while employees at JL6 and above such as managers and senior managers are not subject to this policy.
