Infosys one of India’s most prominent IT giants has a diverse ownership landscape. While the Murthy family continues to hold a significant stake the largest shareholder in the company is not Narayana Murthy nor his wife Sudha Murty or their children Akshata or Rohan Murty. LIC: The Largest Shareholder The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) India’s largest life insurer holds the largest stake in Infosys. With 395772200 shares amounting to a 9.531% stake LICs holdings are valued at approximately Rs 8694 crore. LICs increased stake in Infosys over the past year underscores its confidence in the company’s performance and growth trajectory. Other Major Stakeholders The second-largest shareholder is SBI Funds Management Ltd. which holds a 4.210% stake with 174813735 shares valued at Rs 3840 crore. Following them is Sudha Gopalakrishnan wife of Infosys co-founder S. Gopalakrishnan holding a 2.297% stake with 95357000 shares valued at Rs 2095 crore. The Murthy Familys Stake In Infosys The Murthy family led by co-founder Narayana Murthy continues to have a notable presence in Infosys: Narayana Murthy: Holds 0.36% of shares a slight decrease from 0.40% after gifting shares to his grandson. Sudha Murty: Holds 0.93% translating to approximately 3.45 crore shares. Akshata Murty: The UK Prime Minister’s wife holds 1.05% or about 3.89 crore shares. Rohan Murty: With 1.465% (6.8 crore shares) he remains the largest stakeholder in the Murthy family. In 2023 Narayana Murthy gifted 15 lakh shares worth Rs 240 crore to his four-year-old grandson Ekagrah Murty giving him a 0.04% stake in Infosys and making him one of India’s youngest millionaires. Institutional Investors’ Role Infosys’s ownership reflects a significant influence from institutional investors showcasing their trust in the company’s global standing and innovative capabilities.
