During Holi in the country's capital Delhi, there has been an increase of more than 100 percent in traffic violations. Delhi Traffic Police has issued 7,230 invoices on the festival day. It is 100 percent more than cases of violations of 3,589 traffic rules recorded in 2024. These figures have increased concerns about road safety and following traffic rules.
According to the police, driving driving was the highest. There were 1,213 cases of drink and drive, while in 2024 the number was 824. The number of bike riding without a helmet also increased by 56 percent, which increased from 1,524 invoices to 2,376 in 2025 in 2024. There was also an increase in cases of violation of other traffic rules including triple-riding, tinted glass and without seat belt driving. This year 573 challans were issued for triple-riding, while 97 motorists were fined to use tinted glass.
Delhi Traffic Police also launched a special campaign on Holi. The police had deployed 84 special teams equipped with alcometer to investigate the driving drivers. These teams were stationed from 8 am to midnight at the main intersections of the capital, liquor drinking places and other major places.
