The 78-year-old Chirayu Amin a prominent Indian billionaire and business leader is the chairman and CEO of Alembic Pharma one of Indias oldest pharmaceutical companies.
From IPL To Pharma Leadership
Amin is best known for his tenure as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 17 months stepping in after Lalit Modis removal in 2010. Beyond cricket administration Amin is also known as a pharma tycoon.
Alembic Pharma founded by Amin’s grandfather in 1907 originally focused on producing tinctures and alcohol. Under Amin’s leadership since 1967 the company has grown into a pharmaceutical powerhouse. Today it generates over one-third of its annual revenue from the Indian market selling generic drugs such as the widely known cough syrup Glycodin.
With a net worth of Rs 13911 crore ($1.6 billion) according to Forbes Amin leads a company with a market capitalization of Rs 16142 crore.
Chirayu Amin Arrested
Over 250 persons including former IPL Commissioner Chirayu Amin were arrested in 2016 from a wedding party in a raid conducted by Vadodara police. Liquor was being served at the party despite strict prohibition laws against it exists in Gujarat.
Chirayu Amin was former Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and also former Chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He was also President of the Baroda Cricket Association reflecting his deep involvement in cricket administration.
Chirayu Amin’s Personal Life
Born in Vadodara Gujarat Chirayu Amin is married to Malika Chirayu Amin. The couple has three sons all of whom are actively involved in different aspects of the family business.
Amin holds an MBA degree from Seton Hall University USA and a Bachelor of Arts/Science from Baroda University.
