state weather agency has issued an orange weather warning for parts of the province as a major storm hits land this evening (March 17). Aemet's warning will affect the Costa del Sol and Ronda, a coastal region among the top destinations for .
The is in place between 6pm and midnight on Monday, with forecasters predicting that up to 80 millimetres of rain, accompanied by thunder, could fall in just 12 hours. Several other areas of Spain are under a yellow warning for both thunderstorms and rainfall. The wet weather will continue across into Tuesday, with only a short respite before another storm hits later this week.
Aemet's orange weather alert reads: "Accumulated rainfall in 12 hours: 80 mm. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Ronda region and the westernmost part of the Sol and Guadalhorce regions."
As Lawrence rolls in across Spain today, it repeats the scenes witnessed from Storm Konrad just last week. Named by the Portuguese meteorological service, Konrad saw torrential rain with as much as 15 millimetres falling within one hour, alongside wind gusts of 44 mph and waves of two to three metres.
In 2024, the saw a record-breaking 14.4 million tourists. This represented a 3.17% increase compared to 2023 and generated over 21.2 billion euros, a 10.9% increase, according to .
Meanwhile the entire provinces of Cadiz, Huelva and Sevilla are on alert for the whole of Monday for both thunderstorms and rainfall.
Forecasts predict up to 40mm of rainfall over a 12-hour period across the three provinces.
The wet weather will continue across Andalusia into Tuesday, before a brief respite on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Aemet predicts that another storm will hit on Friday, bringing with it yet another wet weekend.
On Tuesday, orange alerts have also been issued for much of Spain's southern coastal region, including Estrecho-Cádiz and the Huelva Coastline for a "Combined Westerly or Southwesterly Sea of 5 to 7 m".
Southwesterly and westerly winds of 31 to 38 mph (Force 7), occasionally 39 to 46 mph (Force 8), are also possible until the morning of Tuesday (March 18).
These warnings will start at midnight on Tuesday and remain in place until 08:59 in Huelva and 10:59 in Cadiz.
