Mumbai, March 17 (IANS). Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has revealed why he chose singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh for his film 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. Ali described Dosanjh as a live performance and said that he has amazing energy.
Ali spoke about the film and actor on Komal Nahata's game Changers Podcast. He told how he prepared the songs sung by the film's music, scenes and especially Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. Asked about filming Chamkila's original songs, Ali explained how he was inspired by live performance.
He said, “I used to watch the videos of Chamkila, which you can still see on YouTube. He changed the singing style, which was fantastic in every way. Ali explained why he chose Diljit especially for this role.
He said, “I wanted to take Diljit Dosanjh in this film because he is a live performer. Dosanjh knows what kind of energy you have to bring when you perform live and he changes accordingly. He has molded his character in the film and he has done a great job. He played the character of Chamkheela.”
'Amar Singh Chamkila' is a film based on the life of music composer Amar Singh Chamkila. Imtiaz Ali's 'Jules' short film 'My Melbourne' compilation, which is ready for release.
'My Melbourne' has a total of four stories, inspired by true incidents in Melbourne, Australia. The film sheds light on subjects like diversity, gender distinction, breed distinction. The film is directed by Indian filmmakers Onir, Reema Das, Imtiaz Ali and Kabir Khan.
