Starting March 1, 2025, the government will enforce stricter traffic penalties, including hefty fines, jail terms, and license suspensions, to curb violations, enhance road safety, and instill responsible driving habits nationwide.

One of the most significant changes is the crackdown on drunk driving. Previously, fines ranged between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500. Under the new rules, first-time offenders will have to pay Rs 10,000 and could face up to six months in jail. Repeat violators will be fined Rs 15,000, with jail terms extending up to two years.
