Starting April 1, 2025, new FASTag rules will come into effect in Mumbai, making digital toll payments mandatory. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced that all toll plazas in Mumbai will shift to a FASTag-only system to streamline toll payments and reduce congestion.

If you pass through a toll plaza without a FASTag, you will be required to pay double the toll fee—which can be paid via cash, credit/debit card, or UPI.

Who Will Be Exempted from FASTag?

According to media reports, certain vehicles will be exempt from the FASTag requirement at five major entry points in Mumbai. These include:
✅ School buses
✅ Light motor vehicles
✅ State transport buses

This exemption applies to toll plazas at:

  • Mulund West
  • Mulund East
  • Airoli
  • Dahisar
  • Vashi

However, the FASTag system will be strictly enforced on key highways like:
🚗 Mumbai-Pune Expressway
🚗 Old Mumbai-Pune Highway
🚗 Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway

Where Can You Buy FASTag?

You can purchase FASTag easily through:
✔ Paytm
✔ Amazon
✔ Banking apps and websites

Recharge options are available on PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, and other payment platforms.

Avoid Double Toll Charges!

Be aware that if your FASTag is blacklisted, you may still have to pay double toll, even if you recharge it. This happens because the status update takes time. To avoid overpaying, make sure to recharge your FASTag well in advance before heading out.

The new FASTag rules aim to improve traffic flow and ensure hassle-free toll transactions. Stay updated and ensure your vehicle is FASTag compliant to avoid penalties!
