India's Para Swimming Team Gears Up for 2025 World Series in Barcelona

Indian Para Swimming Team Set for World Series

A contingent of 27 athletes, including 19 para swimmers and 8 officials, is ready to represent India at the esteemed 2025 Para Swimming World Series, scheduled to be held in Barcelona, Spain, from March 20 to 23.


The team will be under the guidance of Sharath M Gayakwad, a Paralympian and Arjuna Award recipient, who currently serves as the national coach.


In a statement prior to the competition, Sharath expressed, “This is one of the most promising contingents India has produced. The team has trained with incredible dedication, and I’m confident they will make the nation proud on the international stage,” as reported by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).


The squad showcases a mix of seasoned athletes and emerging talents. Niranjan Mukundan, a participant in the 2021 Paralympics, brings valuable experience and leadership. Key contenders include Shridhar N Malagi, Gopichand Lingual, and Tejas Nandakumar, all of whom have reached the finals at the Asian Para Games. Herojit Rajkumar and Shams Alam, recognized for their consistency, further strengthen the team.


Returning with renewed vigor is Devanshi Satija, a medalist from the 2018 Asian Para Games, while Vaishnavi Jagtap continues to impress with her rapid progress. Himanshu Nandal, who has been visually impaired since birth, stands out as a remarkable talent, having secured multiple national golds and set records. He qualified for the 2024 Paris Paralympics but was unable to compete due to slot limitations.


The team also features promising swimmers like Afrid Attar, Ali Imam, Chaitanya Kulkarni, Bhavani Karthik, Ajibur Molla, Sai Nikhil, Kiran Tak, Sathi Mondal, and Garima Vyas, all contributing to India's expanding talent pool in para-swimming.


This participation signifies another significant milestone in India's pursuit of sporting excellence and inclusivity. With strong preparation and high aspirations, the team is eager to showcase their skills and enhance India's reputation on the global para-sports arena.
