New Delhi: Tejas Express the semi-high speed fully air-conditioned train introduced by Indian Railways features modern on-board facilities with doors which are operated automatically. Tejas is one of three semi-high speed trains running in India the others being the Vande Bharat Express and the Gatimaan Express. The inaugural run of Tejas Express was on 24 May 2017 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Maharashtra to Karmali Goa when it covered a distance of 552 km in 8 hours and 30 minutes. On 1 March 2019 the second Tejas Express flagged off between Chennai Egmore and Madurai Junction when it covered a distance of 497 km in 6 hours and 30 minutes. Indian Railways has other semi high-speed and high-speed trains like Rajdhani Shatabdi and Duronto which are among the most prominent trains known for their high speeds. However Tejas Express surpasses all three in terms of maximum speed. The Tejas Express can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h while its maximum operating speed is limited to 130 km/h due to safety and track restrictions. The Tejas Express is fitted with automatic plug doors and all main entrance doors are centrally controlled by the guard. The train will not move until all doors are closed. Western Railway has introduced the newly upgraded Tejas sleeper coach with fully air-conditioned train rakes for a comfortable journey. These coaches are bright golden-hued and equipped with advanced smart features. These are being introduced on the Mumbai Rajdhani Express. The new coaches are designed to offer the best-in-class travel experience. Each Tejas coach is equipped with six cameras offering live recording for enhanced security. These cameras feature day-night vision facial recognition in low light and a Network Video Recorder. The train has a panic button in each lavatory to be used in case of emergency. Each passenger is provided with mobile charging points and berth reading lights for added convenience and comfort.
