's daughter has given a devastating update after the veteran's death earlier this year. Hackman, 95, was at his Santa Fe home alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, 65, in February; their bodies had started to mummify and were found alongside their crated pet dog, Zinna, who also sadly passed away.

Betsy's cause of death was revealed to be from hantavirus - a rare disease spread by mice - while Gene likely died a week later from heart disease, while battling advanced Alzheimer's disease. Zinna likely died from dehydration and starvation. Now Gene's daughter Elizabeth has asked that Zinna be cremated, and her remains buried with Betsy. The 62-year-old requested Zinna, 12, be cremated at the Santa Fe county animal shelter, asking police to save the dog's collar for the family.

The couple's two remaining dogs - Nikita and Bear - have been rehomed with separate families after being found alive at the scene. They were roaming free in the house and garden, while Zinna had been crated following a recent medical procedure.

Police body cam footage has now been released featuring the call between Elizabeth and cops, along with a clip that shows deputies talking to a groundskeeper at their New Mexico compound, who became emotional realising he would not see the couple again.

The groundskeeper can be heard saying "something is not right", adding: "That big vent you see on the roof by the front door, that thing's like that big around, so it's meant to vent.

"So I just don't... and that mechanical room is pretty damn tight. I don't see carbon monoxide getting..."

It comes after it was confirmed Gene made a "chilling" mistake before his shock death which could lead to a battle over his $80million fortune. According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Gene left everything to his wife Betsy - but she is believed to have died a week before him.

Now the Avalon Trust, which has been appointed as a temporary successor trustee, is tasked with dividing up Gene's fortune - likely between his three children. Gene shared Christopher, Elizabeth and Leslie with his first wife Faye Maltese, who died in 2017.

His children, however, were not named in the actor's will and have not commented publicly on the matter. Betsy, however, was named as Gene's sole beneficiary in 1995, with the last update coming in 2005.
