Shivam Dube was dismissed courtesy of a smart catch by on the long-on fence during Match 3 of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, March 23. A tossed up 80 kph delivery by IPL debutant, Vignesh Puthur, was launched down the ground by Dube.
It seemed as if the ball would sail over the ropes for a massive maximum at the point of contact. However, the ball gained more height than distance to be pouched safely by Varma at the fence. It was a long time that the southpaw had to wait underneath the ball while remaining conscious of his vicinity, making the catch even more impressive.

The 24-year-old left-arm wrist-spinner ended with a three-wicket haul in his inaugural game in the IPL. His first and third wickets were that of skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda.

Despite Puthur's brilliance, fell short at the end. Quick-fire half-centuries by Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra led the way for the home team. Interestingly, top-order batter and part-time right-arm off-spinner, Naman Dhir, proved to be the most-economical bowler for the visitors.
