New Delhi . Election Commission is running a campaign to link Voter ID Card to Aadhar Card by Election Commission. Some voters are also denying this. However, if voters (Voters) refuse to give their Aadhaar number to the Election Commission (EC) in the upcoming assembly elections, they will have to give reasonable reasons. For this, they may have to appear personally before the Election Registration Officer (ERO). Let us tell you that the Election Commission has also said in the court that the disclosure of Aadhaar number is voluntary.
In a report, official sources have been quoted that the proposal came out last week after discussion in a high -level meeting between senior officials of Election Commission and Representatives of the Ministry of Law, Ministry of Law, Ministry of Information Technology and UIDAI (UIDAI). This proposal may apply before the upcoming assembly elections. After this change, if a voter refuses to provide Aadhaar number, then he will have to go to the ERO and clarify why he did not give the base.
Election Commission's argument in Supreme Court
This step has been taken to confirm the affidavit given in the Election Commission's Supreme Court cases G Niranjan vs Election Commission of India. In this case, the Election Commission had informed the court that it is planning to make a clear amendment to the electoral form, so that the voters understand that the Aadhaar number is a voluntary process.
At present, Form 6B has a provision to take Aadhaar number from voters. It has an option in which it is written, “I cannot provide Aadhaar number because I do not have Aadhaar.” An objection was raised about this option, as the voter was forced to make a false statement, if they did not want to give Aadhaar number.
Election Commission will give a new option
Now this option will be removed in Form 6B. Instead, a new option will be added to the opportunity to tell the voter to tell that instead of giving Aadhaar number, he is presenting any other alternative documents and then will clarify the reason for not giving Aadhaar by appearing in front of the ERO on a certain date.
This change will be applicable only when the Election Commission will send it to the Central Government as a proper proposal and the Law Ministry will approve it through notification. This amendment can probably be implemented before the Bihar assembly elections.
This step has been taken at a time when the opposition India coalition parties have alleged the voter list irregularities in various states. In this context, the Election Commission has decided that it is important to collect Aadhaar numbers to record the social and demographic information of the voter properly so that there is no disturbance or duplicate entry in the electoral list.
