Bihar News: A man shot dead two people before killing himself at the Ara Junction railway station in Bihar’s Arrah on Tuesday evening. The incident took place on the footbridge that connects Platform 2 and Platform 3.
According to the officials, the deceased include a teenage girl, Jiya Kumari, aged between 16 and 17 years, and her father, Anil Sinha.
The accused has been identified as Aman Kumar. He first opened fire at the girl, then shot her father before shooting himself. All three died on the spot, according to Bhojpur ASP Parichay Kumar.
“On the overbridge between platforms 3 and 4 of Ara Railway Station, three people have died of gunshot wounds. According to the eyewitness, a man aged 23-24 years shot at a girl aged 16-17 years and her father. He later shot himself," Kumar told the reporters.
An investigation into the matter is underway, while the motive behind the incident remains uncertain.
“The motive is yet to be known. However, the love angle can not be ruled out," said the SP of the area, adding that the forensic team had collected the evidence from the spot.
Speaking about the same, RPF Senior Commandant Prakash Panda said, “We are investigating. We will make arrangements for CCTV cameras. Although there are around 40 cameras at the railway station, we will get some installed on the foot over the bridge. The murder weapon has been seized."
A report by PTI suggested that the girl was to board a train to Delhi from Ara railway station.
