International political leaders and human rights organizations have taken notice of the Baloch National Movement’s (BNM) intensified worldwide campaign to highlight the continuing persecution in Balochistan.

In an effort to raise awareness of human rights violations, wrongful detentions, and the brutal repression of nonviolent protests, the campaign, spearheaded by the BNM’s Foreign Department, has written to Irish politicians and members of the European Parliament.

The possible effect on Pakistan’s GSP+ trade advantages, which are reliant on the nation’s adherence to international human rights standards, is a noteworthy aspect of this project. BNM has urged lawmakers in Europe to hold Pakistan accountable for its conduct in Balochistan.

BNM Chairman Dr. Naseem Baloch led a group that participated in many UN events and hosted the 6th Balochistan International Conference in Geneva during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Commission. The group pushed for action from the international community via lobbying and diplomatic initiatives.

Several European leaders have responded to this effort. Simon Harris, Ireland’s Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, acknowledged the growing alarm and affirmed that Ireland’s embassy in Islamabad is keeping a careful eye on the situation. Regarding the arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other activists, Ireland is in contact with the EU and other allies.

Concerns have also been voiced by European Parliament members. MEP Barry Andrews vowed to take additional measures and reaffirmed his commitment to respecting human rights while denouncing the arrests. He recollected his encounter with Sammi Deen Baloch, a Baloch activist, and pledged to press Pakistani authorities on the issue.

Similarly, MEP Cynthia Ni Mhurchu expressed her disapproval of the capricious detentions and pledged to bring up the matter with her other members of the Renew Europe group.

Additionally, Irish MP Richard Boyd Barrett denounced Pakistan’s attempts to muzzle Baloch voices, pointing out that Ireland’s Foreign Minister has been tasked with answering a parliamentary inquiry on the matter.

In order to raise awareness of the Baloch people’s fight, BNM’s Foreign Department has promised to keep reaching out to human rights organizations, the UN, and parliamentarians in the US and Europe.
