A bad night's sleep can throw the daily routine out of gear the next day. Quality sleep rejuvenates both the body and the mind. Not only that, studies including one published in Nature suggest that the brain removes waste and toxins during sleep. It is during sleep that various organs repair themselves. To be sure, the brain and other body organs keep busy with repair work all the time but it is during sleep they function most effectively. While it has been long debated as to how many hours of sleep is good for optimal health, it is certainly the quality of sleep that matters a lot.

As a sizable number of people grapple with sleep disorders globally, various sleep methods are believed to aid in good sleep. The Scandinavian sleep method is the latest one to fascinate people.

What is the Scandinavian sleep method?
As the name suggests, this sleep method has its origin in Scandinavian countries like Sweden, Norway and Denmark. It essentially allows the practitioner more freedom as bedmates use separate duvets instead of one. This ensures you don't get into tug-of-war with your partner.

Comfortable sleep position: A comforter or blankets of your liking allows you to choose your sleep position without getting disturbed by your partner. You also get to customize your bedding while sharing the bed with your partner.

Body temperature adjustment: By using separate duvets, quilts or comforters, the partners are able to adjust their body temperature as per their requirement. Someone feeling cold can completely wrap themselves in the duvet while the other partner has the choice to partially cover themselves if they feel the need.

How is it different from sleep divorce ?
Sleep divorce is when romantic partners sleep in separate beds or rooms which can help improve sleep quality in some cases. Sleeping in different beds can allow people to sleep without disruptions like the other partner snoring, moving legs, tossing and turning, and other such issues.

However, sleeping in different beds can affect intimacy and affect bond between the partners. In some cases, people may miss co-sleeping with their partners which could actually worsen their sleep quality. Another research says sleeping with loved ones can actually help improve the quality of sleep.

Considering sleeping in separate beds could prove to be stressful for many people, by using the Scandinavian method the couples can share the bed with their partners while enjoying the sleep environment of their preference.

The Scandinavian sleep method is slowly gaining popularity thanks to viral TikTok videos by Swedish influencer Cecilia Blomdahl .

But everyone may not find Scandinavian sleep method working for them for various reasons. For instance, it limits the scope of cuddling and spooning in the bed!

In all, couples should consider the pros and cons of these methods before adopting them.
