Pratik Gandhi’s Phule, which examines the lives of social reformers Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule, is creating a lot of talk. With Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa in the lead roles, respectively, the movie stays true to history, and the directors boldly state that no artistic license has been used to change accepted truths. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Pratik discusses his thoughts on historical films that have been banned or subjected to trolling.

Pratik said that despite the continuous trend of ban calls and cancel culture, he is not concerned about Phule. Regarding the film’s veracity, he said, “I’m not concerned for Phule because it is based on historical facts and there is nothing we have changed out of fear or to appease any sect.” Nothing has changed that I’m aware of. I think the filmmaker, Ananth Madhavan, may provide more in-depth explanations using facts and stories.

The actor also said, “That way, I’m in a very safe space and very confident about this,” demonstrating his faith in the project. He went on, “It is very difficult these days,” in response to worries about possible criticism or retaliation. Anyone may be offended by anything. In the modern world, particularly with social media, you can never be sure. People can say and do whatever they choose, and they often abuse this ability. The only way to deal with this is to be brave.”

Pratik’s comment comes as movies and other creative endeavors are coming under more and more criticism for allegedly manipulating historical facts for political or economic ends. According to Pratik, Phule’s creators uphold the integrity of the facts at all times.

In case you haven’t heard, Jyotirao Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule, established Pune’s first ladies’ school in 1848. In order to promote equal rights for underrepresented castes, he also founded the Satyashodhak Samaj (Society of Truth Seekers) alongside his supporters. The plot of the movie is based on their own experiences and struggles to implement social changes. In the production, Pratik co-stars with Patralekhaa, who plays Savitribai Phule.

What is Pratik Gandhi’s next film, other from Phule, Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan? with Pannu Taapsee.
