Grok, an AI chatbot launched by Musk’s xAI, has reportedly become the highest downloaded free app on the Google Play Store. On X, Musk announced this milestone with a screenshot of Grok’s listing on Play Store, highlighting that the app is currently leading in the ‘Top Free’ section, beating TikTok and ChatGPT.
Grok remains the most sought-after app on Play Store
Musk also shared his achievement with a post saying, “Cool, @Grok is #1 on Android!” This screenshot seems sourced from the US Play Store, which displays the top three apps on the Android app store. As per the listing, Grok is leading with a 4.9 rating, while TikTok and ChatGPT follow at second and third positions with 4.1 and 4.8 respectively.
Grok’s implementation is inspired by Ghibli’s art
After ChatGPT’s Ghibli art feature went viral, Elon Musk’s Grok also launched a Ghibli-style art feature, allowing users to generate portraits with AI, or draw them from description’s text or images. In contrast to ChatGPT, which restricts generative free-tier users to three images a day, Grok does not require a paid subscription to use this service.
Grok’s increasing fame in the Play Store can be attributed to the rapid image generation as well as the new version 3 update which is said to cover the response time and overall image generation capabilities. Free image enhancement is likely the reason behind this notoriety.
