Admission will be done in DU through CUET UG 2025, but if two students get the same marks, who will get admission? Know the tiebreaker rules, and how will the 12th marks, age, and lottery system decide!
Every year lakhs of students prepare for admission in undergraduate courses in Delhi University (DU). This time in 2025 also, the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG 2025) is going to be organized for admission. This exam will be held between 8 May to 1 June 2025. After its results are out, Delhi University will admit students through its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). But many times it happens that two students get the same marks in CUET UG. In such a situation, the question arises that who will get admission then? For this, DU has made a tie breaker rule.
What is the tie breaker rule and when does it apply?
When two students score the same marks in the CUET UG exam and there are less seats in the college, the tie breaker rule is used. This means that in such situations, certain methods are adopted to decide which student will get admission. This rule is necessary because every year the number of seats in DU is limited and the crowd of students is very high. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to take a decision in a correct and fair manner.
Under the tie breaker rule, the 12th class marks of the students are first looked at. The student who has more marks in 12th will get the first chance. Suppose two students scored 600 marks in CUET UG, but one has 95% in 12th and the other has 90%, then the one who has 95% will be given priority. But if the 12th marks are also equal, then age is made the basis. In this, the student who is older in age will be put ahead. For example, if one student is 18 years old and the other is 17 years old, then the 18-year-old will get preference.
Now what if both the 12th marks and age are the same? In such a situation, DU resorts to the lottery system. That is, in a way, luck is tried and it is decided through lottery who will get the seat. This method is completely fair and there is no bias in it.
How many colleges and courses are there in DU?
Admission to a total of 79 undergraduate courses in 69 colleges of Delhi University will be based on the score of CUET UG 2025. These courses include many popular programs like BA, BSc, BCom. Apart from this, some colleges also offer diploma and certificate courses, in which admission will also be given through CUET score. That is, if you want to study in DU, then preparation for CUET UG is very important.
Keep these things in mind before applying
Due to there being 79 courses in DU, the eligibility for each course is different. Therefore, when the CUET result comes and applications under CSAS start, students should check thoroughly whether they fulfill the necessary conditions for the course they want to take admission in. If you are not eligible, then there will be no benefit in applying. So read the rules first and then apply thoughtfully. This will increase your chances of getting selected.
When and how will the CSAS process start?
The application process of CUET UG 2025 has recently ended and now the preparation for the exam is going on. Delhi University has made it clear that as soon as the CUET results come, the process of CSAS will start. In this process, students will have to register online. After this they will be able to choose the college and course of their choice. That is, you have to decide in advance which college and course you want to study in, so that you can fill the right choice at the right time.
It is every student's dream to get admission in DU, but correct information and preparation is very important for this. The tie-breaker rule makes this process more transparent. If you work hard and understand the rules, then your admission can be confirmed. So be prepared, take the CUET UG 2025 exam, and fulfill your dreams.
