Bollywood actor Salman Khan's much-awaited film Sikandar was released on Eid, March 30. Despite the hype, the AR Murugadoss directorial opened to mixed reviews and a lukewarm box office response. While some criticised the director for failing to bring out the best in the actors, others pointed to the film's weak plot.Following Sikandar's underwhelming performance, many social media users have suggested that Salman should consider retirement. The film grossed only Rs 26 crore on its opening day, a disappointing figure for a Salman Khan starrer, followed by Rs 29 crore on day two in India.Amid the poor box office run and negative reviews, The Free Press Journal conducted an Instagram poll, asking netizens, "Sikandar has failed to meet box office expectations, and there is a clamour that Salman Khan should retire. Do you agree?"The poll sparked debate, with some users suggesting that Salman should take on more age-appropriate roles, while others firmly believed it was time for him to step away from the big screen."Don't know about retirement but please take a goddamn break! We are tired of seeing whatever he does in the name of acting😩," a user commented. Another wrote, "We have already considered him as retired....we don't watch his movie anymore😂""It’s easy to write someone off. What if the issue isn’t him needing to retire but really the choice of films. What if we gave him something else - OTHER stories that remind us of his inherent charm and talent? Instead of giving him the same thing to do again and again??" asked another user.'Salman should take a break like Shah Rukh'A section of users also felt that Salman should take a break, much like Shah Rukh Khan, and make a strong comeback. For those unversed, SRK stayed away from films between 2018 and 2023, only to return with a bang, shattering box office records with Pathaan. Later that year, Jawan and Dunki further cemented his status as the King of Bollywood."He should definitely take a break and chill for a couple of years... Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Sikandar are not the films we need... Even after he decides to take a break and make a comeback, his film choices should be age-appropriate," wrote a user. "Salman really needs to take a break and rethink his career choices just like srk took a 4 year hiatus, and maybe comeback with a bang in a more age appropriate, story-driven role. Bhai's 'swag' is not appealing anymore, it looks like he's being forced to act," another comment read. Taking a dig at the actor's film choices, a user commented, "Antim should've been his Antim film 🙏""Retirement for some kind of reassessment is essential. It's not just age or box office, it's about losing the last tinge of any craft left in you. Salman is not a terrible actor, but definitely not someone, who is acting anymore. So take a step back, assess, reassess, go to Karjat (any place other than Rajasthan) it whatever for sometime," read another comment. Here's how others reacted: "Bas ho gaya, Bhoijaan! Retirement ki umar aa gayi hai, ab retire ho jao. Aur kitni haddiyan todni hain? Farmhouse jaake painting karo."Sikandar has been touted to be a complete Bollywood masala entertainer, with romance, action and emotions. The film marks Salman's first collaboration with Ghajini director AR Murugadoss, who gave Bollywood its first Rs 100 core film. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, who has not seen a single flop in her career in the past couple of years. Besides, it also features well-known faces like Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Sathyaraj and Prateik Babbar among others in key roles.
