Bangalore: The Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka Government hiked the sales tax on diesel, resulting in a price hike of Rs 2 per litere.
Effective from April 1, 2025, the Karnataka Sales Tax rate on diesel has been revised from 18.44 percent to 21.17 percent, bringing the new price to Rs 91.02 per litre in the state.
The revision in price was informed through a state government notification.
The notification also mentions the price of diesel in the neighboring states and states that despite the hike the diesel price in the state is lesser than that of its neigbouring states.
Officials state that the additional revenue generated from the hike will be allocated for infrastructure development and public welfare schemes.
This latest hike adds to a series of recent price hikes, including higher property tax, electricity tariffs, and milk prices, further straining the financial burden on the people of Karnataka.
