Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has once again urged ministries to consider expanding visa policies to stimulate tourism growth and position Vietnam as a safe and welcoming destination.

The government has commended the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant agencies for their recent efforts in relaxing visa policies for foreign visitors, according to the government’s portal.

However, the PM emphasized during a meeting with government officials on Monday that Vietnam’s visa policy still requires further improvement to align with the goal of contributing to socio-economic development, promoting the tourism industry, attracting foreign investors and experts across various fields, and showcasing Vietnam’s image as a safe and hospitable nation.

Since March 1, Vietnam granted visa-free travel to 45 days for citizens of Poland, Czechia, and Switzerland traveling on package tours, adding to a list of 25 countries enjoying visa-free entry.

In mid-March, Vietnam extended visa exemptions for citizens of 12 of the 25 countries, including major tourism markets like South Korea and Japan, until 2028.

Apart from visa-exempt countries, Vietnam grants three-month tourist visas to citizens of all other nations and territories.

The country targets 22–23 million foreign tourists by 2025 after receiving 17.6 million last year.
