New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) bagged their second win in a row after thrashing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, April 01. Punjab Kings produced a disciplined bowling effort to restrict LSG to 171/7 in 20 overs before chasing down the target comfortably with 22 balls to spare.

It was a clinical run chase from Punjab Kings, who rode on brilliant half-centuries from opener Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer to make light work of the 172-run target. Prabhsimran slammed a quickfire 69 off just 34 balls to get his team off to a flying start on a tacky Ekana surface before Iyer combined with Nehal Wadhera to get PBKS over the line comfortably.

PBKS lost opening batter Priyansh Arya cheaply on just 8 off 9 balls in the 3rd over, but Prabhsimran’s fireworks ensured the visitors capitalised well on the Powerplay. The right-hander took the attack to the LSG bowlers from the word go and smashed the ball all around the park to race to his fifty off just 23 balls, helping PBKS finish with 62 runs off the Powerplay.

Prabhsimran continued his assault from one end with support from skipper Iyer, who played his natural game from the other. The opener hammered 69 off 34 balls laced with 9 fours and 3 sixes to set the stage for an easy run chase for Punjab. After his departure in the 11th over, Shreyas combined with Wadhera to share an unbeaten stand of 67 runs for the third wicket to take his team home.

Shreyas, who notched up an unbeaten 97 in PBKS’ opener against the Gujarat Titans, continued his purple patch with another terrific knock of 52 runs off just 30 balls studded with 4 sixes and 3 fours. Wadhera flourished in his quickfire cameo of unbeaten 43 off just 25 balls, tonking 4 sixes and 3 fours. The duo took the LSG bowlers to the cleaners to power PBKS to their second consecutive victory in IPL 2025.

Arshdeep Singh stars with the ball

Arshdeep Singh was once again the standout performer with the ball for Punjab Kings as he bagged a three-wicket haul to help his side restrict LSG to 171/7 in 2 overs. Arshdeep drew the first blood for PBKS by removing the dangerous Mitchell Marsh on a duck in his very first over before picking up the important wickets of Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad to finish with figures of 3/43 off his 4 overs.

LSG got off to a poor start, losing Marsh on a duck before Aiden Markram was cleaned up on 28 off 18 balls. All eyes were on skipper Rishabh Pant, but LSG’s Rs 27 crore buy disappointed again as he was sent packing after managing only 2 runs off 5 balls, getting caught off the bowling of Glenn Maxwell as his side was left tottering at 35/3 inside the Powerplay.

Nicholas Pooran’s 30-ball 44 and Ayush Badoni’s fighting 41 helped LSG recover from a stuttering start before Abdul Samad’s fiery cameo of 12-ball 27 lifted them to a challenging total of 171 runs. However, PBKS batters came all gunz blazing in the run-chase to end any hopes of LSG plotting a comeback as they suffered their second defeat of the season.
