West Indies Cricket’s selection of Shai Hope as their T20I skipper in lieu of Rovman Powell has drawn harsh criticism from former captain Dwayne Bravo.

West Indies had a comeback in T20 cricket under Powell’s direction, winning home series against South Africa, England, and India. Additionally, he led the side to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage and was instrumental in the team’s ascent from ninth to fifth place in the ICC T20I rankings.

The former all-rounder resorted to social media to say that “injustices towards players still continue” and that the decision was “sad on all levels.”

“@windiescricket, you guys once again demonstrate to the Caribbean community and the cricket community that player injustices persist!

As a former player and WI cricket fan, I can say that this is undoubtedly one of the worst choices ever made. @ravipowell52 took over as captain when our T20 team was in ninth place and managed to climb to third place in the rankings. This is how you guys pay him back for the unfair treatment of the players. When will it stop?

“Make sense of this; it’s very sad on many levels! Bravo posted on Instagram with the caption, “SMH #JusticeForRP.”

In addition to the change in white ball leadership, Kraigg Brathwaite formally resigned as Test captain, and a replacement will be announced in the next weeks.

In 2024, he led the West Indies to an exciting eight-run victory in Brisbane, their first Test victory in Australia in 27 years. He guided the squad to a historic Test win against Pakistan earlier this year, the first in thirty-four years, in Pakistan to tie the series.
