During his journey, he took a can with a coconut and cola, which he planned to give to the Sentinelus tribe as 'Prasad'. By 10 in the morning, he had reached the north-eastern coast of the island. There he surveyed the area using telescopes and stayed near the sea for an hour, trying to somehow attract the attention of the islands. But as soon as he expressed his presence by whistling, Polykov managed to land on the island for some time. However, he later returned back to Kurma Dera Beach, where local fishermen saw him and informed the authorities.

Investigation and arrests

After this incident, Polyakov was taken into custody by the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Investigation revealed that Polykov had made the entire plan of his journey carefully. He was looking for the sea position and the way to reach the island from Kurma Dera Beach using GPS navigation throughout the journey. Officials have filed an FIR (first information report) against Polykov under Indian law. He has been convicted under the Indian Foreign Act 1946 and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Protection of Tribal Tribes) Amendment Regulation, 2012.

Importance of Sentinelis tribe and island

The people of the Sentinelis tribe living on the Northern Sentinel Island are completely cut off from the outside world. Their life is far from the modern era and they feel completely uncomfortable in keeping contact with any outsider. Their region is considered highly dangerous, and whenever an outsider tries to enter their territory, they respond in a violent manner.

Earlier, three years ago an American citizen tried a similar attempt and was allegedly killed by the Sentinelis tribe. This is the reason that the government has imposed a strong ban on the departure of outsiders on this island.

This incident once again proves that entering the island of Sentinel is not only illegal, but it can also pose a threat to the safety of the tribe living there. The attempt to infiltrate Mikhailo Victorvich Polykov made it clear that it is necessary to protect not only the Indian law but also the culture and lifestyle of these tribal communities.
