Her father abandoned her when she was quite young. She started working for living and left school to support her family. She started working as a child artist and portrayed the role of a boy Master Sooraj during the 1960s in Hindi films. Her film Hamraaz where she appeared as a child artist was widely appreciated by the audience. She played the daughter of Vimi named baby Sarika. As an adult Sarika debuted as a lead with Geet Gaata Chal co-starring Sachin Pilgaonkar. Sarika went on to appear in various films such as Jaani Dushman Griha Pravesh Bin Phere Hum Tere Jyoti Bane Jwala Kranti Satte Pe Satta Vidhaata Razia Sultan and more. Sarika Thakurs marriage with Kamal Haasan     Sarika married superstar Kamal Haasan in 1988. The actress became the mother of two daughters Shruti and Akshara before marriage. In mid 80s Kamal was romantically involved with his co-star Gautami and moved to a live-in relationship with her. After hearing this Sarika was devastated and decided to end her marriage with Kamal. In 2002 Sarika and Kamal Haasan parted ways. In a conversation with Simi Garewal on her show Rendevouz with Simi Garewal Sarika revealed that she was left with only Rs 60 post-divorce. She used to spend nights in her car and would sometimes take help from her friends regarding other necessities. Even her daughters decided to stay with their father and thats when she decided to come back to Mumbai from Chennai. Apart from acting Sarika has also worked in the industry as a costume designer sound designer and associate director. She was last seen in Uunchai.
