On Wednesday, Janata Dal (United) MLC Neeraj Kumar expressed gratitude to the federal government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for its successful efforts in obtaining the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.
“The Central government has presented strong evidence in the US court to extradite Tahawwur Rana to India,” Kumar added, referring to it as a “big achievement”. Strict action against him is what we urge. Rana has links to an event Kumar called an “attack on India’s pride” and was engaged in terrorist operations.
It was known that the Canadian businessman of Pakistani descent was an active member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a terrorist outfit.
Rana was instrumental in obtaining travel documents for Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley, also known as Dawood Gilani, who scouted important locations in Mumbai.
The extradition procedure was conducted in accordance with international legal norms, Neeraj Kumar said, underscoring the gravity of the Indian government’s response against transnational terrorist networks.
“The proof will determine the accused’s punishment. This instance reminds us of the rising global problem of cross-border terrorist activity and has broader political ramifications,” Kumar said.
He emphasised the necessity for zero tolerance when it comes to threats to national security and restated the JD(U)’s call for tough punishment against anybody engaged in terrorist or anti-national actions.
According to a source, Rana has been extradited from the United States and is scheduled to arrive in India shortly with a special team of investigation and intelligence authorities.
According to the source, Rana is being transported by a special jet that will also stop at an unidentified site before arriving in New Delhi.
Two prisons in Delhi and Mumbai have implemented covert high-security measures in accordance with suggestions made by a US court.
According to top government officials, Rana would be brought before a National Investigation Agency court in New Delhi for detention upon his arrival.
He would subsequently be taken into custody by the Mumbai Crime Branch.
