When we discuss about Bollywoods most iconic filmmakers Subhash Ghais name instantly pops in our mind. But did you know before becoming a celebrated director he actually ventured into acting? Yes you read that right! He delivered a hit before but later stepped away from limelight to work behind the lens. Also he launched the dancing diva and queen of expressions Madhuri Dixit into superstardom. Lets delve into his remarkable journey and undying passion for cinema.
Subhash Ghai made his acting debut in the early 60s with few brief but noticeable roles. However it was his 1969 blockbuster Aradhana starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore where he got a sustainable role on-screen. While not a lead but it was enough to get him noticed.
He later starred in films like Umang Bharat Ke Shaheed Sherni and Natak. But Ghai wasnt happy being just another struggling actor in Bollywood. So he switched to direction in 1979 taking up his first directorial project Kalicharan. The film was a blockbuster starring Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy in lead roles. Following that he directed films like Karz Hero Saudagar Karma Pardes and became the man who shaped the face of mainstream Bollywood cinema for decades.
In 1989 Subhash Ghai took a chance and reintroduced Madhuri Dixit in Ram Lakhan alongside Anil Kapoor. The actress was just one film old which was a Bollywood dud. But later with her magnetic performance and impeccable dancing skills she became an overnight sensation. From there it was no looking back for the Dhak Dhak girl and Ghai became as her godfather in the industry.
What makes Subhash Ghais journey remarkable is that he dared to evolve and didnt fear change. His journey from a forgotten actor to a blockbuster director proves that success doesnt mean sticking to one path it means how many risks you take in finding your own way.
