Washington, DC: US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said on Tuesday (local time) that US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have shown the nation’s partners and adversaries that the US should not be taken for granted. Only Trump, according to Bruce, has the guts and vision to declare that enough is enough, and the US greatly benefits from having the “world’s best dealmaker” in the White House.
Trump’s “indefatigable effort” on tariffs to restore American greatness, she said during a press briefing on Tuesday (local time), includes the titanic endeavor to alter the nation’s trading trajectory, which she claimed has been subjected to a “crushing burden of a web of unfair trade arrangements, resulting in American taxpayers being ripped off every single day.”
Regarding tariffs, Tammy Bruce stated, “The coverage of President Trump’s unwavering endeavor to restore America’s greatness includes the heroic endeavor to alter the country’s trading trajectory, which has been crushed by a network of unfair trade agreements that cause American taxpayers to be defrauded on a daily basis. Only President Trump has the foresight and guts to declare that enough is enough.
“Having the greatest negotiator in the world as president is a huge plus for the United States of America. His tariff policies have shown to both our friends and adversaries that the United States is a country that should not be taken for granted and whose prosperity is closely linked to that of every other country on Earth. Americans and people throughout the globe have been reminded via this process how America has been exploited and that, because of President Trump, we have a means to repair the harm the global left has done to our country and the planet,” Bruce said.
Bruce pointed out that over 130 countries stepped up to renegotiate their economic agreements with the US, proving that Trump not only changed the trade landscape but also served as a reminder to the rest of the world that respect is important.
As more than 130 nations approach renegotiating their economic ties with the United States, President Trump has not only reset the trade climate but also reminded the world that respect is important and that he and the people of this country will be held to it, Tammy Bruce said. As part of today’s announcements, Secretary Rubio directed the State Department to cancel an additional 139 awards totaling USD 214 million.
Bruce cited comments made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying, “The Secretary said, quote, ‘The American taxpayers should not be financing erroneous schemes… We are creating an agency that is committed to putting America First and cleaning up the mess created by the previous administration.”
Trump said earlier on April 9 that tariffs on China will be raised immediately to 125%. Following a retaliatory action by China, which raised its tax on US imports from 34% to 84% beginning on April 10, the US president took this action.
Trump simultaneously stated that he has authorized a 90-day “pause” and a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff for 75 nations that have invited U.S. officials for trade discussions. India is one of the nations in trade negotiations with the United States.
“With immediate effect, I am increasing the tariff that the United States of America imposes on China to 125% in response to China’s disrespect for global markets. Trump said in a post on the social networking site Truth Social on April 9 that “China will eventually realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A. and other countries are no longer sustainable or acceptable.”
On the other hand, I have authorized a 90-day PAUSE and a significantly reduced reciprocal tariff of 10%, also effective immediately, based on the fact that over 75 countries, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, have called on representatives of the United States to negotiate a solution to the issues being discussed regarding trade, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-monetary tariffs. These countries have not, at my strong recommendation, retaliated against the United States in any way, shape, or form. I appreciate you taking the time to consider this. He went on.
