Two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett has made the shock revelation that she is contemplating leaving acting behind, an astonishing revelation considering that she is still actively working on top-line movie projects. Speaking in an honest interview, Blanchett confessed feeling uneasy describing herself as an actress and implied that she is already prepared to switch to other facets of life.
“I don’t even like to refer to myself as an actress anymore,” Blanchett explained in the interview. “My family rolls their eyes every time I say I’m going to quit—but I mean it. There are so many other things in life I’d love to get into.”
Renowned for her strong performances and authoritative screen presence, Cate Blanchett has been one of Hollywood’s most esteemed and multi-talented stars for a long time. Her latest film The Bleak Bag was out in March 2025, and she has just finished shooting for Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, which is slated to hit theaters later this year.
Even with her busy film career and awards she’s won—two Academy Awards for Blue Jasmine (Best Actress, 2014) and The Aviator (Best Supporting Actress, 2005)—Blanchett went on record saying she has never been completely comfortable in the spotlight.
“Always this feeling that I don’t really fit in,” she explained. “I’ve devoted my life to finding fulfillment in this career, but it still isn’t enough. I wonder at times if I’m even part of the world in which I’m working.”
The star continued to claim that she becomes more interested in other individuals rather than her own self. “There’s nobody more dull to me than me. I get other people far more interesting,” she confessed. “I seriously believe I am a little lacking in intellect.
Blanchett’s statement has caused general debate in the entertainment industry, particularly because she is currently committed to a number of future projects. Although she has not yet formally announced retirement or given a time frame, her statement reflects a change of personal priorities and perhaps a gradual departure from the profession.
Her friends, colleagues in the acting community, and industry in general now wonder if one of film’s most iconic artists will actually hang up the hat that brought her worldwide recognition. Regardless of whether she continues on as an actor, Cate Blanchett’s impact on film continues to be profound and long-lasting.
