With an expenditure of Rs 170 crore, Uttar Pradesh plans to turn 15 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) into Centres of Excellence. These centres will include state-of-the-art facilities, such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) laboratories, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs, and digital resources to support e-learning. Even in distant locations, learning will continue unhindered thanks to solar power plants and smart classrooms.
The 15 districts chosen for this second phase are Ghazipur, Bareilly, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mathura, Pratapgarh, Bhadohi, Azamgarh, Unnao, Hathras, Kanpur, Sultanpur, Firozabad, Shravasti, Baghpat, and Kaushambi, according to Dr Pawan Sachan, Joint Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Under the Centres of Excellence programme, the central Ministry of Education has approved and made available money for this initiative.
Modern facilities for Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) candidates will be made available by these renovated DIETs, which will also improve the quality of instruction given to primary and upper primary school teachers.
Additionally, lecture rooms, auditoriums, CCTV cameras, and separate dorms for male and female students will be built. Thirteen DIETs were chosen last year for the initiative’s first phase, and they are now being built at a budget of Rs 103 crore.
