New Delhi According to Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), India is a major resource and talent centre for AI specialists, which is a strong indication of the government’s and industry’s efforts to foster an environment for AI adoption.
Speaking at “GITEX Africa 2025,” Africa’s biggest tech and startup show, the minister claimed that India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has brought about revolutionary changes in a number of fields, particularly in the areas of digital identity (Aadhaar), digital payments (UPI), e-commerce (ONDC), and healthcare.
Additionally, we are expanding our skilling ecosystem by incorporating cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, finance, and digital infrastructure. In more than a year and a half, the digital public infrastructure for the skilling ecosystem, the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), has onboarded over one crore people. At the event in Marrakesh, Morocco, the minister told the audience, “These are areas that are full of potential for collaboration with our African partners, and we can collectively grow our economies through sustained partnerships.”
The three-day event gave visionaries, policy leaders, and changemakers a forum to debate and reflect on how to work together and advance the need for inclusive and equitable development of the global economy.
“With established open-source Digital Public Infrastructure systems and a faster rate of digitalisation than some other developing economies, India has the potential to accelerate the pace of digitalisation in other developing nations looking to develop similar systems through cooperation and knowledge sharing,” Chaudhary continued.
The minister conducted fruitful bilateral contacts outside the conference. According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Chaudhary’s talks covered a wide range of topics, including the exploration of AI, research, and capacity synergies; insights on how DPI can serve as a catalyst for inclusion, innovation, and equitable growth; and India’s experience in developing scalable, inclusive technology for the public good.
