Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly set to snub the Club World Cup following Manchester City's decision to release him. The Belgian midfielder revealed last week that City had declined to offer him a new contract and informed him he was free to leave the Etihad this summer.
This has left De Bruyne disgruntled and on the hunt for a new club. Pep Guardiola's squad is due to travel to the United States in June for the inaugural Club World Cup. Despite his current deal not expiring until the end of that month, De Bruyne is understood to have reservations about participating and is eager to conclude his City career after the final league match of the season.
The Belgium international is keen to avoid any injury that could jeopardise a move to another club and is also looking forward to a significant break before the start of the next season.
While Guardiola would prefer De Bruyne to be involved in the Club World Cup to boost City's chances of victory, it is expected that De Bruyne will negotiate with City in hopes that the club bosses will understand his situation and excuse him from the trip to the States. De Bruyne is currently being eyed by clubs in Saudi Arabia, Europe and the MLS, including David Beckham's Inter Miami.
However, De Bruyne is keen to take time to discuss his future with his family before making a decision. He could even opt to stay in the Premier League if an attractive offer comes his way.
