Mumbai: Varuthini Ekadashi, one of the most spiritually significant days in the Hindu calendar, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Observed during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Vaishakha, this Ekadashi is believed to grant prosperity, peace, and spiritual merit to devotees who fast and pray with a sincere heart.
In 2025, Varuthini Ekadashi will be observed on 24 April, based on the Udaya Tithi (sunrise calculation). According to the Vedic Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi begins at 4:43 PM on 23 April and ends at 2:32 PM on 24 April. Devotees are encouraged to observe the fast and rituals on the second day, i.e., 24 April 2025.
On the day of Varuthini Ekadashi, it is considered highly auspicious to bring a Tulsi (Holy Basil) plant into the home or plant a new sapling. Doing so is said to gradually dispel ongoing troubles and attract divine grace. The plant should be placed in the northeast direction of the home for maximum spiritual benefit.
Wake up early during Brahma Muhurat (before sunrise) and take a bath. Offer water to the Tulsi plant, light a ghee lamp in front of it, and chant the Tulsi mantra. This sacred ritual is believed to remove financial difficulties and helps in completing long-pending tasks.
During the Ekadashi Puja, include Tulsi leaves (Tulsi Dal) in your offering to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. This practice is believed to protect the devotee from illnesses and negativity, ensuring smooth progress in life.
Varuthini Ekadashi is more than just a fasting day—it is a divine opportunity to realign with positive energy and unlock blessings through simple yet powerful rituals. Adding Tulsi practices to your spiritual routine this Ekadashi may not only purify the surroundings but also usher peace, abundance, and protection into your home.
