As part of an ongoing inquiry into the seizure of hybrid ganja valued at almost Rs 2 crore earlier this month, Malayalam stars Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi made an appearance before excise inspectors in Alappuzha on Monday.
The lady who reportedly informed the excise officials that she had used drugs with both Chacko and Bhasi was found in possession of the substances.
According to her testimony, the actors were sent notifications by the excise department, which led to their presence for interrogation.
Excise officers are looking into the players’ participation in this specific instance as part of a broader crackdown on drug-related operations.
Shine Tom Chacko, who has been accused of drug usage and other misdeeds in the past, is still being investigated.
The actor was given a last warning by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) on April 22 and was urged to abstain from any further drug usage and disruptive behavior on the set.
B. Unnikrishnan, the general secretary of FEFKA, acknowledged Chacko’s drug use at a press appearance.
“FEFKA let Shine’s family members know that he needed expert help to address his drug usage issue. If he breaks the promise not to cause any more issues, we won’t work with him,” Unnikrishnan said during the news conference.
Glow Last week, Tom Chacko’s problems escalated when he was caught up in an altercation during a drug bust at a Kochi hotel.
After a protracted interview, Kochi police arrested the actor on April 19, despite reports that he had left the scene.
Shortly after his arrest, he was granted bail.
Chacko’s role in the drug-related case has come under more scrutiny as a result of the continuing inquiry.
The probe is still underway, Putta Vimaladitya, the Commissioner of Police, told ANI.
“A charge filed against actor Shine Tom Chacko is now being investigated. We have collected a few samples to send to the FSL, and we will carry out more research in light of the findings. Furthermore, we are also looking at several additional conditions. He is assisting with the inquiry, but unless we get more information, we won’t be able to move it forward or say anything definitive at this time. We are checking to see whether the reason he provided is accurate,” the police officer said.
In response to a police notice asking for an explanation for his attempt to escape the hotel during the drug bust, Shine Tom Chacko had earlier shown up at the Ernakulam North Police Station.
Shine made this appearance with the help of his attorneys.
