[Jordan] Petra In an effort to protect visitors, Jordan’s Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) evacuated hundreds of tourists from the historic city of Petra on Sunday after intense rains caused flash floods in many locations around the region.
According to Jordan News Agency (Petra), Yazan Mahadin, Commissioner of Petra Archeology Park and Tourism at the PDTRA, informed the agency that site admission ticket sales were halted starting at noon as a precaution.
Al-Khazneh, the Siq, the Roman Soldier’s Tomb, the Monastery, and the slopes of Prophet Harun were among the high-traffic sites where the majority of the 1,785 visitors who had visited the site earlier in the day were evacuated, according to Mahadin. There were no reported injuries.
