Birmingham, UK: Harry Brook continues to make quick progress in the world of international cricket, reaching yet another noteworthy career milestone. The 26-year-old became the 49th best run scorer for England across all forms as he reached 4,000 international runs in the first ODI against the West Indies in Birmingham.
In his first appearance as white-ball skipper, Brook helped England win handily with a cool 58 off 45 deliveries, which included five boundaries and three sixes. His performance demonstrated his leadership abilities as well as his worth as a reliable middle-order hitter.
In 96 games since his debut for his country, Brook has scored 4,011 runs at a remarkable average of 43.12. With nine international hundreds and twenty-one half-centuries to his name, his 99.47 overall strike rate demonstrates his offensive instincts and ability to manage the pace in a variety of settings.
In Test cricket, Brook has had the most influence so far. He has amassed 2,339 runs at an impressive average of 58.47 in only 25 Test matches, including eight hundreds and eleven fifties. His propensity to play extended, game-changing innings is further shown by his career-best score of 317.
Brook has played in 27 games and amassed 874 runs in the ODI format. He has amassed 798 runs from 44 appearances in T20Is, showcasing his versatility and adaptability in all forms.
In his debut game as white-ball captain, Brook led England to a commanding 238-run victory against the Caribbean team at Edgbaston, kicking off their home summer beautifully.
Although England will face further difficult tests before to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, the performance against the West Indies was a significant improvement over the team’s previous performance.
In addition to losing the ICC Champions Trophy at the beginning of this year and failing to advance beyond the group stages of the most recent 50-over World Cup in India, England hasn’t even triumphed in a bilateral ODI series since defeating Ireland 1-0 in September 2023.
Since taking over as captain from veteran Jos Buttler, Brook has given England’s white-ball team fresh vitality.
