As reported by Singaporean news outlet 8daysWei’s agency confirmed the relationship after photos of the pair holding hands at a Yoshitomo Nara exhibition sparked speculation: “Our artist Waa Wei is currently in a relationship.”

“Both parties were single before they began dating,” the statement continued. “This is not a secret, and [Wei] was not hiding it. As for the online speculation, we understand where people are coming from, but Waa Wei was not a third party in anybody’s relationship, and had no intention of hurting anyone.”

The clarification comes after Chen’s ex-girlfriend, influencer Raewyn Teng, posted on Instagram on July 27, indirectly referencing the relationship.

“Whenever Waa Wei posts Ian on social media, [I see images of] his silhouette, his purple-painted nails, his clothes, his birthday, his first name, and the sunglasses he wears,” Teng wrote. “They stab at my heart again and again.”

Teng later deleted the post and issued a follow-up message, saying: “Earlier on, I was not clear on the situation and made a post while feeling emotional. Thank you for your concern—please be kind and avoid hurting others.”

Wei rose to fame as the lead vocalist of indie band Natural Q before launching a solo career in 2007. She is a two-time winner of the Golden Melody Award for Best Female Mandarin Singer.

She was previously married to Taiwanese actor Christopher Lung. The couple divorced in 2022 after four years of marriage and share a six-year-old son.
