One of the major talking points in the Kollywood industry earlier this month was about Vijay’s farewell film Jana Awell. The political entertainer directed by H Vinoth had been slated for a Pongal 2026 release but the unfortunate events at Vijay’s TVK Party rally in Karur caused a confusion about the film’s release date.

Soon after the rally, there had been relentless negativity on social media and the film’s producers KVN Productions also indefinitely put the promotional activities in hold. This generated a strong rumour about a possible postponement for Jana Awellespecially with the political climate seeming uncertain.

However, the latest update from trade circles is that the film will release for Pongal 2026 as initially planned with no chances of postponement. By Vijay’s standards, the promotional activities around the film has been very slow but that is also understandable when you factor in the political activities that will now also be a part of the actor’s timeline.

Over the last week, there have been numerous developments regarding the Karur rally stampede case and the actor-politician is expected to visit the affected families in the near future. Reports suggest that Jana Awell‘s promotions shall officially kick-off once Vijay returns from his planned visit.

As no details are available presently about the dates of his Karur visit, the corresponding promotional activities also remain under wraps. Speculations are that he could be visiting Karur by October 17-18 although a public confirmation is awaited from the party sources.

Meanwhile, an official announcement is expected from KVN Productions towards the end of October. Jana Awell has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander with Pooja Hegde playing main female lead opposite Vijay.

Having previously collaborated twice with Ajith Kumar, this will be Vinoth’s first association with Vijay. Coincidentally, the director’s previous release, Thunivualso happened for Pongal in 2023, on 11th January, and interestingly, it had clashed with Vijay’s Varisu, which also had a same day release.
