Elon MuskThe social media platform owned by X has made a big announcement. The company has announced that the Twitter.com domain will be shut down from November 10, meaning that all services will now be shifted to the X.com domain. However, most users will not be affected directly. But there are some accounts which need to take proper steps on time, otherwise these accounts may get locked.

Which users will be affected?

The X Safety team said from their official account that users who have used a hardware security key or passkey for two-factor authentication (2FA) will have to re-register their security on the X.com domain before November 10. If users fail to do so, their account access will be terminated and users will not be able to login again. (Photo Courtesy – Pinterest)

What did the company say?

X has clarified that this change is not to any security threat but is a technical update. Security keys are currently associated with the Twitter.com (twitter.com) domain. They need to be re-enrolled to associate with X.com (x.com), so we will close the old domain.

If any user does not re-enroll their security by November 10, their account will be locked. Unless the user re-registers their security, chooses a different 2FA method, or turns off 2FA entirely (although the company recommends keeping 2FA on).

This way you can continue your X account

  • If you are affected by this new policy of X, then follow the steps below.
  • Open the X.com website or app
  • Go to Settings
  • Open the Privacy & Security section
  • Tap Account Access → Security → Two-Factor Authentication
  • Re-enroll an existing security key or register a new one

If your account has already been locked, you can regain access using any of the three options above (register again, choose a new 2FA method, or turn off 2FA).
