Mumbai will have to wait longer for a new mayor. The election for the post of Mayor in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been postponed for the time being. The mayor's election is now likely to be held in the first week of February. The reason for the delay is being said to be technical problems as the ruling parties have not been able to register their councilors and groups.

After the declaration of reservation in BMC, there were preparations to hold elections on January 31, but the registration work of the faction of corporators of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena has not been completed yet. For this reason the election process could not proceed. It has been decided through the lottery process that the Mayor of Mumbai will be a woman who will be from the general category.

Election is not possible until the process is completed

According to the information received, the registration process of the faction of 65 corporators from both Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) parties has been done, but their certificates have not yet been submitted to the Municipal Corporation Secretary's office. Until this process is not completed, it is not possible to conduct the mayor's election.

Now there is a possibility that the election of Mumbai Mayor will be held in the first week of February. At the same time, the political picture regarding the joint faction of BJP and Shinde Shiv Sena is still not clear. Whether both BJP and Shiv Sena will jointly form factions and register separately, it has not been decided yet.

The process of registration after civic elections is an important task. But the process of registering political parties is still incomplete. BJP with 89 councilors and Shiv Sena with 29 councilors have not registered their groups. BJP will start the registration process on January 27 after Republic Day.

There will be momentum with the arrival of CM Fadnavis

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is out of the country and is likely to reach Mumbai late on Saturday night. After his arrival, BMC mayor elections and related power-sharing processes will be expedited. It is believed that BJP will first call the core committee meeting. The party will also start talks with Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde.

Recently, elections were held for 227 seats of BMC on 15th January. Whereas the results were declared on 16 January. The process for reservation of the post of Mayor was completed on January 22 through lottery. In this it was decided that the Mayor of Mumbai would be a woman from the general category.
