Vidya Balan Had earlier made headlines with Akshay Kumar's films 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' and 'Hey Baby'. These films gave her initial recognition, but the actress got the biggest and special recognition in the industry from a film released in the year 2011. This film proved to be a huge hit and collected more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. For this she also received the National Award for Best Actress. But, Vidya was not the first choice for this. The name of the film being talked about here is 'The Dirty Picture'. This picture was released on 2 December 2011. It was directed by Milan Luthria. While Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor were its producers. The makers had earlier offered this picture to Kangana Ranaut, but the actress did not show interest in it.
Talking about rejecting this film, Kangana had said in one of her interviews, "I have no regrets in rejecting this role. I have been saying that The Dirty Picture is a great film. I don't think I could have played this character better than Vidya Balan. She is amazing in this film. But, sometimes I also feel that I could not recognize the possibilities associated with this film."
This one and a half decade old film was made with a budget of Rs 18 crore. Emraan Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah also played lead roles in this. The Dirty Picture earned Rs 80 crore at the Indian box office and Rs 116 crore worldwide. This picture proved to be a superhit.
